Sudden slowness in retreiving records (OpenInsight 32-bit Specific)

We are using OI7.01 with the Network product.
For some unexplainable reason, a client site is experiencing sudden slowness in retrieving record and/or completing a form. This may be cause by some problem with some tables, but I don't see any obvious problems with any of the tables or some system files.
Does any one have any suggestion as to where to look.
Has anyone experienced anything like this before. I have certainly not seen this before either in OI or AREV.
Thanks in advance,

Should have been more specific. Using Windows 2000 service 2.1.

Yes there is anti-virus software.

Ray,
Anti-virus software may have a significant impact if real time scanning plus has potential to corrupt files. ALWAYS modify the AV so that it does not scan *.LK and *.OV in realtime, this applies both on workstation and server.

When was the last time the server was restarted? Windows servers seem to need to be restarted periodically or they start slowing down, unlike Netware which will chug along for many a quarter without performance hits.
Check for spyware too, on the server and workstations.

Richard,
What is very strange is that this site has been running for months with anti-virus software installed. If this were the culprit, I would be most curious to know why this slowdown would be happening now.
Nevertheless, I shall investigate and see what might have changed.
Thanks,
Ray

Warren,
Yeah I remember the days of Netware. I remember looking at the system monitor and uptime was like 512 days!
We would then reboot for good luck .
Oh well. The slowdown seems to affect just OI, i.e., doing stuff on other apps seems okay. Now there could be a spyware that affects just OI ;-(.
Thanks,
Ray

Do you have any kind of remote access to this system?

Yes, remote access is possible via VPN (CheckPoint).
I have disabled the virus from scanning OI folder and excluded the LK and OV files, but slowness still persists.
Any wild idea as to what could cause slowness in bringing up a search list (e.g, btree)in a form or record.
Thanks,
Ray

This is an Update.
The site downloaded the Microsoft Anti-Spyware program and ran it. After that things seem to much better. So our tentative conclusion is that SpyWare caused this most stressful slowdown.
This may be useful for other OI developers to keep in mind. I think Warren mentioned this. Good show! (Why would spyware cause this however?)
Again, thanks to everyone for helping.

Spyware does unbelievable damage to Windows systems, from messing with the registry to replacing Windows components (dlls, exe etc.)
Most unexplained performance hits these days are due to spyware. It was just a hunch on my part since OINSIGHT.EXE, FORMDES.EXE etc set off the alarm bells in ZoneAlarm because they want server permissions to various ports (seemingly at random).
