My belief is I must do some configuration in the Config.nt and Autoexec.nt. I've tried to augment the files, the buffers but this doesn't work.

As an experiment try using SUBST to the lowest level of the directory path and use the substituted drive in your program. There were limits with path lengths in older versions of OI and this will show whether this is the problem.
