I have a new install on Windows NT 4.0 server running a few windows 95 workstations. I have AREV 3.12 with NPP 1.50. When i try to run AREV in Windows NT 4.0 server i get the following message:

B328 - Error opening or reading from .ini file "AREC.INI".

I created the .pif files the way that AREV advised in their Advanced Revelation FAQ. Logon and configurations. I also tried to run it using a dos window from within the Windows NT 4.0 server, same problem. I tried to run it form a Windows 95 station attached to the server and it worked! So i went ahead and tried to print to lpt2 from arev and the system locked up..

Please let me know if you have any comments in this matter.

Asking a silly question, is the error message AREVC.INI or AREC.INI.

If it is AREC.INI, I can potentially see why that is a problem, since somehow the INI setting was set wrong.

Are you setting the AREV system variable anywhere?

As for the printer, have you defined a printer set to LPT2 and allowed it to accept print job from DOS programs?

The error says AREVC.INI and i have not set the AREV parameter anywhere yet. The printing seems to be ok now except for the normal windows 95 lock ups and freezes.

Saul,

These are probably due to security settings under NT. Make sure the user has full access to the printer and any other necessary resources.

May be a silly question, but I ran into a problem related to this recently and have never found the ultimate cause.

I has SET AREV=AREV.INI in my autoexec.bat file. Then, I called Arev from a batch file, in which I had SET AREV=AREVC.INI. This setup worked for some time without a problem (don't ask me why I did this), but then for no apparent reason, I started getting an error message indicating the system could not find file "AREVC.IN". It seems the declaration in the autoexec.bat file was somehow limiting the length of the variable, so it was being truncated.

The issue is now resolved by increasing the length of the variable in the autoexec.bat (SET AREV=AREVC.INI )

I have the EXACT same problem. Revelation Tech support is telling me to read responses from your initial problem report! Did you ever get a resolve? It doesn't seem like it. I get a 'B326 Error writing to DOS file "AREVC.INI"' then 'B328 Error opening or reading from .INI file "AREVC.INI"' only when opening an application (account) other than sysprog.
