Is there any way to have two prompts that overlap each other, make it so one prompt can be moved to the top (foreground) of the other prompt?

I've just had a project dumped into my lap where we are radically changing from one code structure to another for a section of our data. Due to rows that are in the works and historical data, the users need to be able to see the old rows with the old data. But if they create new rows, they need to enter in the new data and be able to see that afterwards. So I'll need to create new dictonary items for the new data. Because the effected screens are so crowded, my initial idea is to put the old and new prompts in the same area of the screen. One will overlay the other no matter which set of prompts are being used on any given row. I know how to manipulate the colors and entry type of a prompt thru the WC_W% array. So I can set one set of prompts and their labels to match the background of the screen, making them effectivaly disappear. The other set can be modified to have the propper settings to recieve data.

The only thing I don't know how to do is (or if it is even possible) is to move one set of prompts and their labels to be on top of another. My concern at the moment is that I can manipulate the prompt settings all I want but the set that needs to be in the background and unseen may overwrite the other set on the screen. Effectively coverying up the set that the user needs to see and work with.

Can anyone make a suggestion on where I might look for information on how to do this?

Thanks,

Michael Slack

Michael..

I've never had luck of putting prompts and data on top of one another and using a way to toggle them around. I had a similar problem to yours several years ago and used collector windows(s) on several prompts where I had do display static historical data which could not be modified but might need to be copied (CTRL F3/CTRL F4) to the live prompts. I hooked these to the Help key on the affected prompts which would populate a collector with the necessary data but didn't permit editing (although the cursor would stop there and allow for the pseudo cut-and-paste).

This is exactly what the DICT window does. We've mimiced this in a number of medical applications, prompting for varying symptoms. It's achieved by playing around with WC_Redisplay_List% and WC_Display_Action%.
