Chris,
You're trying to run OI off of the computer you performed the installation from, correct? That's _really_ weird. Try disabling any virusshield-type utilities that you may be running. Also, try running the client install on the CD-ROM–even though those files should have been installed by the normal installation, maybe they didn't update what they needed to for some reason (perhaps because of aforementioned virus-checker). Try running NETDRV, too; see what network driver you are using. I'm assuming you're installing to a local hard drive, and not a network drive, but if you are trying to install to a network drive, make sure it has enough disk space. Maybe the installation is getting cut short.

Chris,
Did you say you were using 3.71? Version 3.71 requires at least a pre-installed copy of 3.7; do you have a working copy of version 3.7? Find out the precise version number you are using. Also, do you get any error besides the GPF, namely an OpenInsight error that precedes the GPF?
I think you should reboot, close down all other programs, reinstall OI, then see if it runs. When I say "close down all other programs", I mean that if you hit Ctrl-Alt-Del, and see the Task Manager, you should only see Explorer and Systray. Find out what versions/builds of 95/98 you are using; check the properties of the My Computer icon.

Chris,
It is possible that the older OI is conflicting with the newer one. Make sure the older OI is NOT in the path. ALso make sure no LH drivers (LH*.DLL) are in the Windows or Windows/System directory. I am guessing something from the old OI is in the path, the Windows or the Windows/System directory … that could cause the error you describe.

What happens if you just try and run OpenEngine? Will it load?
If it does, what happens if you load OI next?
What about doing something with the access window?

Chris,
I had nearly the same GPF occur in-house today, and I think I have isolated it. I'm doing some tests on it with the assistance of our network specialist. I'll let you know what we find, but I'd like to know one thing: are you running yours off of a server? If so, what kind, and what patchlevel is it at?

Just to let you all know (sorry for long delay) that everything is working now. I think there was possibly a hardware issue on the lan or with the cd drive that didnt let the files install properly.
Anyhow when our consultant came by he made it work.
Thanks all!
