I am running a NT Server 2000 with Arev 3.x and the new 2 drivers for the nt service.

There is a dedicated indexer running.

We are getting Link List Broken errors always pointing to the same index at the same row.

The interesting thing is that it nearly always happens during the last 15 minutes of the day, except for this am.

When I go out and verify the files, they are fine.

We are getting tired of rebuilding the file as it is large. 24 indexes on 700,000 records.

The practice as late has been to have all users exit the program, restart the indexer pc and then have the users come in again.

Prior to them moving to a new server when they ran the 1.5 version of the NT service they were fine for years with out any group format or link list years.

Is it possible to generate phantom errors of this nature, or could there be networking problems we are not aware of or are there some other suggestions.

Thanks in advance for your help

Dana

When do your backups and when do bulk email / FTP transfers begin? When do virus scans begin? Have you excluded *.ov files from the virus checker? Is a security profile operating which is time-based?

There is something unusual about that time of day which may affect your processing. What would happen if you dropped out of index processing for that minor period?

I am told by their DP staff that nothing of the kind is happening.

Is the indexer just reporting the fact that the link list is broken? Or has it determined that while attempting to do its stuff that it can not because diagnostically something is wrong.

It guess I am worried because it is the same row each time on each occasion.

I have taken the file in question and renamed it, removed all indexes created a brand new file, even sized it then copied the records over and the dictionaries and set up new indexes and re-indexed all.

I am perplexed over this matter.

If you remove the row where the process breaks, does the indexing run to completion? Is the row a recent addition to the database?

The row is about a month old Dec 7, 2002. It started breaking 2 wks after that.

I checked again with the local dp people and another person advised me today that they have real time virus checking going on for all files. I asked them to remove it for any .lk or .ov file.

We will see what happens.

Thanks

They checked again and virus is not installed on that server.

So Virus check is not an issue nor is updates or any bulk activity.

So we are back to square 1.

Thanks
