I did not spot anything about this here and thought that some might be interested in a patch from Novell that we came across today (only as a beta though). Have a look at:

Any comments, please email me at [email protected] as I don't look here too often!

Is this similar to TDI10054007 as cited in the RevSoft Kb - just re-documented for Client shells incl 4.80 /4.81 / 4.83?
Had only just run tests which subjectively suggested that AREV ran about 5 times slower in this environment (Novell 5 + Win2000 client) compared to Novell 5.x server + Win98SE client. Will check out on Monday if the fix makes diference.

Have carried out some very subjective, broad brush tests on the Beta VIPX - the subject of this thread.
Environment Novell 5.x and base measure win98 w/s using Novell client 32 v3.2 or v3.3 - running AREV and OI16 with NLM v 5.0
Customer had been reluctant to add Win2000 w/s because of performace hit.
Test by adding on Win 2000 w/s (Dell 833mhz notebook) with Novell Client 4.83. OI16 fine, Arev works BUT performance (subjectively) about 5 times slower than on Win98. Although significant performance hit, in grand scheme performance adequate given emphasis moving to OI 32.
Now applied the VIPX patch and BINGO! Arev speed returns to roughly same order as from Win98 w/s. With PC's side by side, customer can not discerne difference in speed. The Win2000 Client might be a tad slower - taking into account processor chips - but irrelevant to the exercise.
At this stage I would be recommending the new (April 2002) VIPX patch in conjunction with NT/Win2000 Client Shells v4.80 /v4.81 / v4.83.
Subject to verification on WinXP - which should check out - customer will move to WinXP client platform on future purchases.

We just applied this to two Windows XP Pro workstations where we have to run both IP and IPX. It makes the response time with ARev almost bearable where before the wait was too long. Looks like we're still heading toward Windows 2000 server.

Dave,
Suggest, if you havnt already, to check the order of protocol stack. Put IPX at top of stack.
I mention this as one place trying this (VIPX) just didnt get the expected speed improvement. Re-jiged the protocol stack and then BIG SMILE.
