If I make a patch in the RDK and a user installs it on his version of our software product, is there some place that the RDK logs the installation either in OI files or in Windows files? For example, is there a SYS- file that keeps track of all RDKs installed or a .log file in Windows that gets updated or something? We have a lot of patches out there and we want to be able to keep track of all the patches that a user has installed on their runtime version.

There is nothing stored in LH records. However, an UPGRADE.LOG file is created during the install process. You could modify the source to add in information you require.

Or create an upgrade subsystem that includes upgrade notes complete with an upgrade table that stores version numbers and dates etc.

Good upgrade notes help customers feel they are receiving value for money…

One of the ways we accompish this is to always have a program which goes on every upgrade which automatically gets called by the program with the RDKINSTALL call after the upgrade is successfully installed. As this program comes in on the upgrade we can have it run around and do all sorts of housework including upgrade notes and much more.
