We started the development of our application on a demo version of OI 4.1. We backed up the application using Appbackup and attempted to restore the application using Appbackup - Restore on our new OI 4.1.2 installation. The restore process started and then crashed (3% was completed). The message was Error FS.

Our attempt to read the error message, stored in the Syslists (surveyit*errors) record, failed with the error "Invalid dictionary item".

I would appreciate any assistance to backup and restore our application. We have assumed the Appbackup - Restore function - utility backs up and restores the the complete application. Is this a valid aaumption?

Mark-

When you did the appbackup, did you specify CopyData Tables?

Did you do the same when you restored?

It's probably easier at this point to go to the database manager and attach the files you need from there.

Hope this helps

Yes to both questions. We followed the guidelines published in the Works document "Instructions on how to perform an APPBACKUP".

I am of the same opinion, as others have expressed on the forum, the APPBACKUP function/module should be a fail safe straight forward operation. Assuming the function works, will APPBACKUP backup my complete application. If I were to email the "backup" directory to another IO developer, can I be assured the after restoring the application the developer will have all the files and records associated with the application? If this is not the case what else has to be done to backup/transfere/archive an OI application?

Well, I can only think that the location you are restoring to does not have the same directory structure as the location from which you backed up.

Is the structure the same?

Good news - the problem is solved - I think! I confirmed the sub directory structure was the same for both systems and then re did the APPBACKUP restore. I accepted all the error (FS) codes messages and the restore continued. The system was restored correctly. The cause of the errors is unresolved.

Thanks for your help.

Mark,

FS messages with just FS and no number have been seen before. I don't remember if they were in connection with APPBACKUP. You can try and search for postings if you have the energy.
