When a user logs onto our Arev app with a new computer for the first time, we have for years, created a local folder and arev tables for the Lists table, systemp and sorting. This eliminates network contention and localizes one users problems with these files to just themselves.

But now, with our new XP Pro Dells (happliy supporting EMS, which we check for on logon into our app) running as non-Admin users is causing this problem:

When the user logs out, they get a 'read-only' file access denied message from Arev. I think it must be the TCL Stack getting written out the local Lists table, but I am not sure.

Clearly this is an XP Pro security issue, but in the millions and millions of XP security settings, and typical "helpless" help from MS, I am lost in a sea of settings.

Anyone know where to tap, or have some idea what *might* work?

TIA

Ralph,

If you right-click on the folder in question, that contains the local tables, and choose properties, I believe there is a security tab.

From that tab you can set individual folder persmissions. Basically, open this folder wide up, public/world readable and writable.

That should handle the issue.

Thanks - that did the trick!

Incidentally, the security tab is only available if NTFS is used. When FAT32 is used, there is no security. :-)

So I had been given a FAT32 XP install, to solve a NTFS XP problem. Kind of threw me off.

Thanks again Matt.
