Can AREV 2.0 app be setup as stand-alone? (AREV Specific)

I work as a network consultant. A client has an old custom app written in Advanced Revelation 2.0. The company that wrote the program is long gone and my client is using a different system now. He wants to be able to access his old data - but there is NO new activity being entered.
His isolated "system" is an old Novell server and a client PC. I would like to get AREV to run stand-alone on his PC. No multi-user capabilites are needed. It could be run on their NT server, but $1500 for the NT service is probably more than they want to spend.
Is it possible to change the network setting to "none"?? Any suggestions?
Thanks,

Mark,
Just log into the SYSPROG account and go to the NETWORK submenu and select NO NETWORK and you'll have a standalone app. Even if you don't do that, running it in standalone will work fine except you'll get a message that no network drives can be accessed, but the application will still run just fine unless the actual network drive letter is hard-coded somewhere (it shouldn't be).

From DOS enter the command
AREV SYSPROG
Then hit F5 to bring up TCL
Then type BUMP and hit enter
Then hit F2 and select the "Non-networking driver" using the up and down and Enter keys.
Then hit F9 to save, then log off.
To check which driver is installed, hit F5 and type WHO to display the AREV network driver details.

If you are not logged into Novell when you run AREV with the Netware driver installed, then AREV will possibly not fire up.
This means you should alter the AREV Network driver BEFORE you move the application to a local disk.

Actually v2.x does not have a networking menu.
You have to login in as user "BUMP" (e.g. AREV BUMP) or from the SYSPROG account type "BUMP" at tcl and change the driver there.
If drives letters are hard coded you may be able to cheat by using the DOS SUBST command or creative drive/folder mapping on NT.

Hmm… I must be getting REAL old; I either forgot to read the entire message, or I read it and then forgot! Either way, I'll try to pay more attention. Thanks to y'all for correcting my misstatement.

I do the same all the time. Unfortunately one cannot delete messages here as one could with CompuServe to hide ones lapses

Thank you for the info. I'll give it a try in a couple days and post a reply with the results.
Thanks again,

Copying the whole works to a PC was the first thing I tried. The error that came up was that the Netware client was not responding and file locking would not work.
I was then greeted by an AREV prompt and had no idea how to proceed. I think switching to NO NETWORK may be all that's required. Thanks.

ARev will work even if you get the message. Record locking is a moot point on a stand alone copy. The problem would be if you're running a local copy and there is a network copy and you should attach to the network. This could cause spurious or duplicate record locks.

I've always advocated a private newsgroup server as other vendors such as BASIS International and Novell run. With some of the fancier news readers out there you can duplicate most of the functions of TapCIS and other offline readers. You can even post binaries to a moderated group which would take care of the library problem too.
Some people seem to think that the lack of traffic on the comp.databases.revelation public use group is a strong argument against using a news server but I attribute the lack of official RTI input there as the main cause of lack of use.

I have two clients who ran Novell 2.2 with SINGLE-user Arev 2.12, one each from separate PCs. In 5 years they got zero GFEs.
1. Make a backup of the data
2. Fire up one PC and hide the rest from his view.
3. Process data.
Better still, transfer the data and Arev to a fast PC and don't even run it over the network. A multi-user Arev will work fine as a single user.
My experience is that the files and Arev can work just fine under Windows NT 4.0 sp3 or higher in a dos box on a WORKSTATION.
1. Turn off record locking! Why? Because that's the primary source of problems, esp on a network.
2. Read the Arev FAQ in the KB and set up the NT workstation the way they describe Win95. Works fine.
