Info:

AREV 2.12

Using HR-1

on Win98

I am relatively new to AREV and it is time to do some house cleaning on our server. Two Questions:

1)The fixtemp.lk and fixtemp.ov are approx 60MB. What do these do and is there a way to empty them? I have done DUMPs of previous files and the fixes went well. Is this where the temporary data is held while fixing?

2)I have a file called REV40569.LK and it has approx 72MB. I did a LISTVOL on all of my volumes and I can not find any files/tables that are attached to this file. Furthermore, Windows Explorer reports that this file has not been modified since Dec-2001. Do you think it is safe to delete this file (I have backups)?

Thank for the help.

Marty

These are temporary files as you guessed. You should be able to do a CLEARFILE FIXTEMP from TCL.

If you have backups then I would feel safe in deleting it. Look for the corresponding REV40569.OV file as well and remove that too.

Marty,

If the rev file is not listed in your media map (ie LISTVOL), then it's fair to call it "orphaned". The DOS files (.LK & .OV) are left behind, but the pointers to them are gone.

Unless you have a VERY tricky program that either dynamically creates a file handle, or overwrites the media map (REVMEDIA.LK) then you can bet nothing accesses those files. You could safely delete them.

If you want to find out what's in them first, then you can create a new pointer to the files in your media map as follows.

1) Login to the SYSPRPOG account, and ATTACHTABLE REVMEDIA

(or Stay where you are and SETALIAS SYSPROG REVMEDIA ERVMEDIA

2) EDIT REVMEDIA MYFILE*GLOBAL (responds "is a new row in revmedia")

3) type your file number REV40569 (Don't put it in the .LK or .OV)

4) Save with F9.

5) ATTACH MYFILE.

you can now dump, edit, or list MYFILE and get some idea of what's in there.

Hope that helps
