Two questions for the OI community:

1) I have a networked OI 3.61 application deployed on a Novell 4.1 network, not using the NLM. When I go into form designer, and pull up a form that is bound to a table, I cannot change the edit validation for any of the fields (the option is greyed out/protected). I am able to edit the conversion pattern as it is not greyed. What could be causing this? The same system works fine in a standalone PC environment.

2) Is there anyway to setup a radio button bound to a table field without presenting a default value? I know I can set the value to blank programatically, but was wondering if there was a way to do this within the form designer?

TIA

Gene

I don't know if I understand this. You said that the Validation is greyed out but there is only one button labelled "edit" in the properties box, which brings up both Validation and Conversion. Also make sure you can see the database association for that specific field in the properties box.

This sounds familiar, i.e I think I have read about it. Try to do a search for postings about this problem. I seem to remember Don Bakke knew something about it.

I don't think so. It is possible to write something in the Default dropdown, or remove the text completely, but at least I cannot get anything to work. So unless there's some secret syntax I think the answer is no.

But I think it still might be possible to do it at design time, but with the System Editor.

The "source" version of the window is stored in SYSREPOSWINS. I have occasionally edited SYSREPOSWINS rows with the System Editor. This time I had no luck, though. Even if I was able to locate the default value, it didn't help to remove it.

But there is also a "compiled" version of the window in SYSREPOSWINEXES. I've stayed away from editing SYSREPOSWINEXES rows earlier, but I tried now to remove the radio button default value and it seemed to work! At least no radio button is initially selected when I run the window.

I've come across one problem when editing SYSREPOSWINS rows, and that is when windows have static texts containing more than one line (i.e containing a line break). I don't know about SYSREPOSWINEXES rows, but it's likely they have the same problem.

And of course it's handy with some documentation when one does open-heart surgery on windows. Sprezzatura has published docs on both SYSREPOSWINS and SYSREPOSWINEXES rows.

What I did with my test window was to make a radio button group with two buttons, change the button labels to "xxx" and "yyy" but keep the values "Radio_1" and "Radio_2". Then in the SYSREPOSWINEXES row I found a field (line)

TEST_RADIO_DEFAULT.RADIO_1

RADIOGROUP TEST_RADIO_DEFAULT 200 150 39 30

1 1 0X52000000 0X20

0 MS Sans Serif -11 700 0 0 0 0 34 0 1 2 1 0 0

CLICK*2*SYSPROG*CLICK..OIWIN*

Radio_1

What I removed was the string "Radio_1" shown in boldface.

This is an issue with NT. See this link for a probable solution.

Nope.

The validation portion of the edit is greyed, but the conversion pattern is not.

Thanks Oystein.

I edited the entry in SYSREPOSWINS with no luck, but did not think to play with SYSREPOSWINEXES… .

I'll make a backup of the form and then start to play.

Thanks again.

Thanks Aaron.

The users are accessing the system via a remote Citrix connection (e.g., NT 3.51 machine) - I'll research the thread and see what I can find.

Gene,

A backup is probably a good idea.

And I hope we are on different sides of the Atlantic if something goes horribly wrong. :-)
