Problems switching from Token to Ethernet (Repost) (AREV Specific)

I posted this on the networking side a while back, and got no takers, so here it is again on the Arev side.
Some of our sites are having to switch from a token ring to ethernet environment.
The token ring was stable in that the workstations would not lock up when in Arev 3.xx using the NLM on a netware 3.x server.
The lock up intermittently and unexpectedly when typing data in the system or sometimes when it is minimized then task swapped back to foreground.
The situation occurs only with the Novell and Ethernet combinations. In our NT server Ethernet sites, we do not see this problem.
The workstations are NT 4.0 sp6
Adapter Card is Intel e100b
Novell Client is 4.71.
NLM is 1.5
Rev Net Driver is Novell ipx 1.5
We are running both IPX and IP, but our preferred protocal in the Novell client is set to IPX.
Can any one suggest something?
Thank you very much.

Hi Dale
I suggest very carefully going through the network trouble shooting info available on the knowledge base on this site.
In particular
1. If you have upgraded the server from Novell 3 to something else you may need to re-install the NLM.
Assuming the NLM is running ok
2. On the Client workstations check the frame types against the IPX protocols in the network settings ie
Control Panel then Network then highlight an IPX protocol and select Properties
Then make sure under the advanced IPX, that you have Primary frame and use only Frame set to Ethernet_802.2
Which you probably wouldn't have set for a token ring…
I think all my clients use Ethernet, and many have Novell 4.x without problems such as you describe. There are some Microsoft -] Novell problems that make the PC appear to lock up briefly as if Microsoft OS adds a time penalty for using Novell.
If this doesn't work, try the network trouble shooting guide again. Ie you can set the settings on the server as well.
good luck

Hi Dana
Sorry about calling you Dale. I think my short term memory has succumbed to a head cold. Or the drugs.
