Disappearing Data (AREV Specific)

The file uses a Btree index. Although the file is Btree indexed, the two particular fields with disappearing data are not indexed. I put a call into the software company yesterday to verify the contents of the dictionary and they called today only to tell me they're not sure when they can get back to me. Great support! When this problem is resolved, I'm definitely looking for a more competent support company!! I have since re-built all Btree indexes in the file. I won't know until tomorrow if this will remedy the problem. Since these two fields are not indexed, does it necessarily imply that I could still have an indexing problem?

If the absent fields are not indexed it is probable this is an application code-related problem. If the record details are present except for the fields in question then a review of the source code is the most appropriate next step. If the whole record is missing then perhaps there is a problem with a key field index or with your workstation setup or network client or network driver setup.
At TCL, enter the command
EVAL CALL INDEX.FLUSH(
,
)this will blank the screen while any recent transactions are incorporated into the indexes.
If you could add detail about the exact steps you take, then this would be helpful.
There may be delimiters (char 252-255) in your record key data which interfere with clean index rebuilds.

As you can see by Sprezzatura's response, there could be a whole variety of issues to consider. I know you want to look at new support after this problem is fixed, but you may want to consider new support for this problem…especially if your problem has not been resolved by tomorrow or when you absolutely need to have it. Don't wait until the last minute to get a qualified person to assist you.

Janna,
I would be interested in how your rebuild of the indexes did with respect to resolving the disappearing data problem. Did you check to see if you have source code for the application? Do you have an idea how large the application is? (Number of users, files, menu selections, programs and/or windows.) Maybe I missed it, but what type of application are you running?
