Help!

We are experiencing a lot of problems printing from OI 3.4 using Windows 95. We have two customer sites that are using 95 on a Novell network with 2 printers available at each workstation - one local and one networked. Both are set up to use the generic text driver supplied with 95. We are using Print_Text etc to produce a "receipt" when a transaction is input and to produce some reports to the network printer.

The local receipt printers often cause a GPF whilst printing. The network printing just hangs the PC after the user clicks OK on the print dialog with no error message. This problem does not happen all of the time but would appear to be becoming more frequent.

This is causing our users a lot of hassle and us a lot of embarrassment. Other branches using the same OI software and drivers but Win 3.11 do not have these problems.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Simon,

What is the error message? That will tell us if it is the driver or in OI. Have you tried using PRINTER ON/PRINT/PRINTER OFF instead?

FYI - the generic text driver is notoriously buggy … do a search in the MS bug base and maybe you can find the same error message.

There are a number of different error messages, and situations where the machine just freezes and the user does not get an error message.

the following are four messages that have been taken down.

1. A fatel error has occurred at 0028:cs43fffd. The current applicaion will be terminated.

2. Oengine. This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.

3. Spool 32 X this program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. If problem persists contact the program vendor. Click on details - Spool 32 caused a stack fault in module spool 55 - DLL at 0157 : 7EB1119A

Simon,

Was there any other text besides the mentions of SPOOL32 and OENGINE?

1. A fatel error has occurred at 0028:cs43fffd. The current applicaion will be terminated.

That is from 32-bit code (notice the 2 most significant bytes of the offset are set). That could be SPOOL32 or a driver. Anything about a .drv or .vxd?

2. Oengine. This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.

Was there a chance to get the details (the Details button)?

Cameron,

Unfortunatley, these problems were reported by the user and they clearly didn't write down everything. I will try to find out what the rest of the message is. We have tried to use the correct driver for one of the printers after your comments about the gerneric text driver and we will keep an eye on the situation.

Thanks

Simon
