Fix Running out of Space (AREV Specific)

I have a client running novell which has a volume which has run out of space. If cleaned up about 10MB because we needed to perform a fix on a table. But we ran out of space there as well. So I freed up another 5 MB and again ran into the same problem. Which makes me believe that Revelation creates a temporary file to copy the data into before recreating it again. Is this true and if so, does Revelation delete the temporary file after it is done. If not, can I delete those files out from DOS. I have found quite a few files in the arev directory which start with R but are not REV files with OV or LK extensions. They seem like R1A34639 or something like that. Can I delete these files? Thanks

Robert,
AREV does create temp files for all sorts of procedures and will, if everything completes successfully, remove them as well. You are probably getting residual files because the process wasn't able to complete and successfully remove the temporary files - thereby compounding the problem you are trying to fix.
Those files that begin with "R" can be removed, just make sure no one is logged in at the time.

NB. Back up your application before doing any deletion.
Files with an extension *.SF1 *.SF2 etc are sort files and can be safely deleted if their time/date stamp is earlier than today's
date. Files with extensions *.VF1 *.VF2 etc. also can be deleted
on the same basis.
Do not delete any files starting with REV*.* - these are critical.
Ensure your users have delete privileges on the network.
If you are still desperate for space, and your application does
not intentionally make use of the LISTS file, then you can
log off all users, at TCL:
CLEARFILE DATA LISTS
Then
DUMP LISTS
Hit Ctrl-R and then Ctrl-C to compress the empty lists file.
Some data archiving may also be prudent, or install a
larger drive.
You may have some DOS orphan files which are present
on the AREV volumes but are not referenced in the
REVMEDIA.* files in that volume. Use RDIR.COM from
my website http://www.ozemail.com.au/~stsm to get
a listing from DOS of the files AREV can access
in a volume. If there are REV*.LK and REV*.OV files
present but not listed by RDIR they are probably
safe to delete.
If running under Windows and using MS Word check
for presence of Microsoft backup files of the
form ~*.TMP - these may be safe to delete if dated
before today.
Hope this helps
