Can someone help refresh my memory as to why physically storing two copies of OpenInsight (live development version and a backup copy of same version) on the same Novell 3.1 server (and in this case in the same directory path) is not a good idea?

A customer of mine needed to restore some data from a backup, and restored their entire backed up OI system to a directory directly underneath the running OI network directory (i.e., running copy in Q:\REV\OI, backup copy in Q:\REV\REV\OI).

I seem to remember file locking as being a problem in Novell when the same exact file names existed on the same file server.

TIA

Gene,

Are you sure there's a problem with just storing two copies? Mustn't both be running?

Whichever - I'd be interested in details too.

Should be OK to have multiple versions, provided only one is running.

If more than one Oengine is launched, and you have the NLM running then it should become aware of it.

Certainly on NT, once the first Oengine is opened, the licence number and number of users that can log in is related to this Oengine. Attempting to log in more users, even though on another Oengine will be aware of this.
