We're running Advanced Revelation 2.1 using Win95 clients. Some of our power users frequently crash their systems when running multiple AREV sessions. Seems to be a novell NLM problem.

Since we're using TCP/IP, I'd like to try running AREV under Linux (via DOSemu). I can't see any reason why this wouldn't work, as from a systems perspective, AREV is a straightforward text-based DOS app.

I think this might do wonders for productivity. 4-8 system crashes a day wastes approx an hour of my time, and the impact on concentration and morale is unquantifiable.

Anybody try this? Any reason not-to? Any interest in my results?

I don't know about Linex, but I have 20 users using multiple sessions of Revelation 3.11 on WIN95 and WinNT Workstation. We experienced several problems while trying to figure out how to get Windows, AREV NLM 1.12, the Novell Intranetware drivers, and Revelation to play nice together. But we've figured these problems out and I have been really pleased at the stability of our systems.

I know it's always inviting to simply switch operating systems to avoid a problem, but I've never had much success.  I'd be very interested if you have locking or printing problems after you switch.  But I'm here to tell you, there is light at the end of the Microsoft tunnel.  (Though I'll admit it's kinda dim, and took us two years to crawl through it . . .) 

I would be most interested in your results.

My initial concern would be record locking.

I'd be surprised if any of the provided network drivers would work.

I?d also be interested in what terminal support exists (other than a PC running emulation).

This could be a cheaper solution for WAN than the likes of Citrix.
