Is there a calendar utility that can be incorporated into OI v2.6?

Marty,

There was a calendar popup (?) that appeared in some examples app in 3.4 (?). Don't know if you can (are allowed) to use that?

Oystein,

Where can I examine this calendar?

Marty,

I don't remember if I ever tried the calendar. I searched my system now to see if I could find it. What came up was the two functions Popup_Month and Popup_Year. Didn't jog any memories. All I remember is I've seen postings discussing Popup_Month lately. Perhaps you can do a search for Popup_Month.

I don't dare post the source for the two functions. Afraid to break license rules. But here are the headings:

function Popup_Month(Options, Instruction, Param)

* * Product : OpenInsight Works! * Release : 3.4 * * Procedure : Popup_Month * Description: Displays a month calendar to facilitate date entry via * keyboard and/or mouse. * * Usage : Popup_Month can be called as a Stored Procedure using a * QuickEvent. For example, call Popup_Month on the OPTIONS * event of each control used for date entry. * * See Also : Popup_Month * * History * 02/09/97 cp Original programmer. * 05/05/97 cp Completing for Works!

function Popup_Year(Options, Instruction, Param)

* * Product : OpenInsight Works! * Release : 3.4 * * Procedure : Popup_Year * Description: Displays a year calendar to facilitate date entry. Note that * the Year calendar is only easily used with a mouse. * * Usage : Popup_Year can be called as a Stored Procedure using a * QuickEvent. For example, call Popup_Year on the OPTIONS * event of controls used for entry of dates that will probably * be within the current year. * * See Also : Popup_Month * * History * 05/05/97 cp Original programmer, based on Popup_Month. *

If I had access to my web server now I could have done a test run and posted a screen dump on the server, for you to see. But I haven't.

I'm certain somebody else can give you useful information.

Oystein-

That's the right call- POPUP_MONTH and POPUP_YEAR were provided as a part of the works program and are limited to the members of the Works program.

Marty- you can find out information about the Works program by calling Customer Care at 800 262 4747.

Mike,

In theory, isn't Popup_Month and Popup_Year now freely distributable by us? Is there anything restricting its deployment any different than a similar utility that we would/could create from scratch?

Popup_Month and Popup_Year qualify as Base Source Code (shipped as part of the original program). As such, they cannot be freely distributed under the CSP license. Below are relevant excerpts from the CSP license:

1. Definitions.

1.1 Base Source Code. All source code delivered as part of the Works Collaborative Source License Program. Revelation reserves the right to define Base Source Code at all times.

3. License Grants.

3.1 Revelation grants to Licensee a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive license, to the extent of Revelation's Intellectual Property Rights covering the Base Source Code, to do the following:

a) Use, modify and extend the base source code to create corrections to errors, modifications, extensions and new specifications.

b) Distribution of these corrections, modifications, extensions and new specifications are subject to the restrictions described in paragraphs 3.3 and 3.4 of this agreement.

c) Other than the licenses expressly granted in this License, Revelation retains all rights, title, and interest in Base Source Code.

You cannot retrospectively apply the CSP licensing to stuff released earlier in the Works program. It only applies to CSP and popup_month and popup_year were provided as source before the CSP came to be. We're sure that you didn't intend to imply otherwise and simply forgot that this source was provided before CSP.

What you have to look at is the Works licensing at the time.

It would seem that in the interests of natural justice, Works subscribers could distribute the compiled versions but not the source.

Perhaps if somebody could provide Marty with a screen dump or description he'd be able to conclude if Popup_Month is what he wants.

In addition to Sprezz's comments, how does any license agreement (i.e. pre or post CSP) relate to modified Basic+ tools? This is a restatement of part of my original question which wasn't directly answered. If I created my own Popup_Month (which is very conceivable) then I should be able to distribute it at my discretion.

Sorry for the confusion. The intent was not to retroactively (not retrospectively) apply licensing restrictions.

All WORKS software and content is available only to WORKS subscribers.

Popup_Month and Popup_Year are delivered in OpenInsight 3.4+ via the WORKS program, therefore are not freely distributable.

Therefore, upgrading to 3.4 will solve this particular problem. 3.4 also has a number of enhancements over 2.6.

If Marty wants to use Popup_Month and Popup_Year, he might want to consider becoming a WORKS subscriber; if he just wants to test it out, he can download the 30-day Evalution version of OpenInsight from the Demos & Downloads section of our site.

Don-

If you create your utility, you can can distribute it as you see fit.

Utilities provided by Revelation are subject to Revelation's licensing.

Wow! I certainly didn't expect the hornets to come out of the nest on this one!

I use OI strictly for myself in my consulting business. However, I have been contemplating an upgrade, but have a hard time justifying the expenditure. I just thought that it might be nice (and easier) to select the dates instead of writing them in where I have date specific needs.

If I ever get to the point that I program for others, then I will upgrade.

Sorry, we're confused as to the subtlety of differentiation between retrospective and retroactive in this context…

  2. Looking or directed backward.
  3. Applying to or influencing the past; retroactive.
