I have a client that has a 4 gig file that had a GFE in it on group 1. It appeared the header was trashed so they decided to copy all the records to a new file. The first time they tried they got a GFE error message (I'm not sure exactly what the message was.)not in group one, they did a dump fix then they tried to copy the records to a new file again. This time there were no error messages the copy seemed to work but when they looked at the file it was only 5k not 4gig. Any ideas what might be going on?

Pat,

Thanks for your answer to my record locking problem. I'll get the network people to reinstall and see what happens.

I've seen the dumpfix do exactly what you described. It deletes troublesome records. In earlier versions of AREV it would write them to a file called DUMP.FIX.GARBAGE. I couldn't find this file in 3.1 so I don't know where they go now.

My suggestion is to create a new table called NEWRECORDS. Copy all of the newer records since the "dump" date into this table. Go to a backup before the "dump" date and restore. Copy all of the new records in NEWRECORDS to the restored table.
