One of our clients wants to convert their remote access method from using pcANYWHERE with a bank of dial-in computers to using a bank of modems to connect to a secondary server through a "remote access server" card. They will be using Netware Connect and connecting from several different remote sites. Does anyone have experience with this type of remote access? What about speed due to large scratch files on the workstation?

TIA,

Kevin,

To the best of my recollection, Netware Connect provides the ability to use modem connections as network connections.

In other words, in stead of a potential 10 MB per second max speed, you would have a 56K max speed (assuming 56K modems).

Think of logging into ARev across a modem.

The PCANYWHERE solution uses machines local to the LAN and sends only screen images to the user across a modem. This low traffic solution provides acceptable performance. Remote Access Services (RAS) solutions generally do not.
