This problem occurred on an AREV 1.16, 50 user Novell network

I received an INDEXING\REV00000.OV Group 6 READ ERROR

ABORT, RETRY, IGNORE, FAIL? while trying to process invoices. Other PC's received a "Waiting for Main Indexing Transaction Lock" message.

We opted for the Abort Option and and all stations returned to normal and the !Indexing file cleared the two pending records.

Other INDEXING\REV00000 read errors have occurred in the past on different workstations.

What can cause this problem? All files in the INDEXING directory are flagged Read Write Shareable.

Could this be a hardware (server) problem or Novell problem.

Any hints would be appreciated.

Sounds like you have a Group Format Error, do you know how to run VerifyLH? What version of AREV is this?

We did a DUMP of the !indexing file and found a errant entry in a group even though we did a CLEARFILE !INDEXING. The errant entry had a field name but not the corresponding file name. We did find the file and removed BTREE Indexes from two fields. It turns out we don't or should I say should not use this file and we will try to find out which programs try to use it, but that is another issue.

After rebuilding a few indexes which were in the !INDEXING file we were back and running again.
