I must do this about 50 times a day, and wouldn't it be great if there was some better way, of…

Each time I open OI to develop my application, I go into 'User Interface Components', then into 'OpenInsight Forms', then scroll down about 10 pages to find my startup form, then Shift-Return to start the application. I do this, and suppose everyone else does also, to allow me to develop in the form designer whilst running the application at the same time.

I would really like some button or shortcut key to run the application whilst in development mode without having to scroll down.

I would hate to think how many hours of my life have been wasted doing this.

Can some new feature be added for this in future please.

Thanks.

And you could always do this:

1) Write a small program to call start_Window() to execute your main form

2) In field 32 of your app's environment record in SYSENV put the name of this program. Now OI will execute this program everytime it starts, thus launching your window for you.

The way I do it is to open Form Designer, click on the File command, and the last 9 forms I was working on are listed below the Exit command. If I want the last form I worked on, I just hit the number 1.

Works for me.

Richard,

Colin doesn't want to work on his application entry point form, he just wants it launched so the application is running while he works on other forms.

Or if he has enough licenses he could just launch a second OI in running mode ;-)

That works but if they intend on deploying the SYSENV record they should modify it first else the application will attempt to launch the window twice.

Aha… I do have enough licences, and I do launch the application on a laptop beside my desktop.

Trouble with this is that the changes made are not picked up on the laptop, until I restart the app… unless of course I have not been into the said form in that logon session.

The Sysmon exec is not a solution I would use, takes twice as long and much more keying….

Suggestion still exists to add a new button to the top of the App Manager.

Cant do this either, as we have SET_STATION in attr 32 to make the StationId unique for Terminal Server use.

You could always call Set_station from the routine that started the Window if some flag were set

I'd prefer Colin's solution as well - it's clean and simple. 9 times out of 10 we open OI in development mode then run our main application window. It seems this would be a fundamental action for most developers - why not just have a button for it on the toolbar?

Right! Sometimes we do key in the same long commands time and time again! What if the Exec Lines of both the System Editor and System Monitor were able to

- remember commands from session to session

- autocomplete your commands?

This is what I would like to find in my Christmas stocking!

Colin,

If you do a search you will probably find this same request from me many years ago of course then we didn't have a group who are as responsive as we have now

Originally I just asked for a "Launch" button for the application from the app manager .. but now .. being more demanding as I get older I would like the App manager to be a little more extensible. Why can't we have buttons on there to do what ever we need

It may become possible as they rewrite OI to use OI. Then if the front screen is in OI .. we will be able to change/enhance. Heck even if it was to give us a menu section which we could add to ..

And even though sprezz said NO .. they are in the uk .. what the heck do they know

Put the question to mike .. it would be a great enhancement for when they redo the App manager

That was a NO we don't have the problem - not NO it won't be done ;-) We're easily pleased - a stable 32 bit platform, a growing user base and a much reinvigorated community. Hip hip hooray!
