Help! I have beautiful benefit confirmation documents set up with Report Designer, and can print them just fine directly from the app. However, I need to export them to a file to give to a vendor for the actual production. When I export to a file (either directly or setting up the printer as a file), I either get only ascii characters, or text without the formatting. I've tried everything, including using various fonts without success. Can this be done (and if so, how), or do I have to spend my weekend at work printing out 5,000 documents?

Sioban,

I'm assuming that your Vendor is not running this OpenInsight app and cannot print the report themselves. You want to send them a file containing all your reports so they can print it themselves, correct? Or do you want just a straight data export that the Vendor can use to import into another program?

If the former, then you can print to a file as long as the Vendor has the same printer as you do. If not, you can install the print driver they are using anyway. Then send them the file and have them copy it to their printer like this: "COPY REPORT.PRN /B LPT1"

If the latter, then you need to write a routine to export your data into a text file. Alternatively you can run ORMAIN to create a simple R/List report and also have it print to a file as above.

Sioban,

Another possible solution (if this is something you'll do repeatedly) is to buy Adobe Acrobat ($???), install it at your site, print the reports as PDF files, and send the PDF files to the vendor. The vendor can then view them with the freely available Acrobat Reader and print them out from there.

(Disclaimer: I haven't tried to print to PDF files from the Reporter myself, just from other programs. But I don't see why it shouldn't work.)
