AREV NLM and Netware's IP compatibility mode driver (AREV Specific)

Can the AREV NLM be run on a Netware 5.0 server using only TCP/IP and Netware's compatibility mode driver to encapsulate and translate the IP to IPX? We'd love to get away from IPX, but the AREV NLM is the only thing holding us back.
If so, are there any white papers or instructions on doing this?
Thanks,

The Linear Hash NLM only works on IPX, with frame types of 802.2 or 803.3.

I understand that AREV requires an IPX packet with an 802.2/3 frame type. The purpose of the compatibility mode driver (to the extent I know about it) is to allow IPX applications to run on IP servers and clients by encapsulating an actual IPX frame in an IP packet. When the server or client decapsulates the packet, a real IPX frame should be presented to the application. Beyond timing issues, it seems like it should work.
I was just curious if anyone has tried running AREV with the compatibility mode drivers. I'll probably give it a shot in a test environment, but I wanted to see what experience others have had before I go through the bother.
Sure would be nice if it works.
