Client Win98 Workstation was working well for years. All of a sudden it has this problem.

1 - Power up

2 - start arev

3 - 3 dots - Asks for passwork

4 - User enters password

5 - Initializion hangs at 4 dots

I see a post from Steve Smith in 1999 that

4 dots=VOC, DICT.VOC and SYSOBJ are attached and the logon verb and attach images are read into memory.

5 dots=If applicable, the attach image is used.

6 dots=The Revboot volume is attached

I have to use windows to terminate the dos app

I then, without a power off, start Arev again.

1 - start AREV

2 - 3 dots, enter password

3 - continue through initialization as normal

The problem only occurs on first arev initialization of AREV. All subsequent arev initializations are ok.

Only this workstation with this problem.

Any ideas of what might be causing this?

What network is this running on? Windows or Novell or ??? Is the NT Service or Netware NLM or the network pack being used?

Has the usual defrag, checking the swap file etc been done on the workstation in question?

Suppose we should ask the obvious "What's changed?" question.

Since it works on a subsequent attempt, then it's possible a network resource is not being initialised correctly.
