One of my clients is having a weird problem. They have an Arev 3.12 system running on a Netware Server with Win95 and Win 3.1x clients, they don't have the AREV NLM. They have about 17 Arev users licensed and generally have all clients logged in. I'm getting records in different tables that seem to be "loosing" Line delimiters or Value delimiters when the record is saved. Other times it seems to save the record and "promotes" value delimiters to line delimiters or "demotes" other times. This can wreak havoc. The next time the record is read all the data is skewed and off position. I have theories that somehow the data is being read incorrectly by "faulty" nics over the network, but when the nics were replaced we still experienced problems… I don't know if the NLM will help prevent this kind of corruption. Is there a patch or any kind of work around that anybody knows of?

From my experience the NLM will minimise these types of data error, simply by minimising traffic on the network. Whenever this type of thing has happened to my clients, it has usually been due to faulty equipment. This can be like looking for a needle in a hay stack, and the only way to find it often is by a process of elimination. I suggest excluding one workstation at a time from your network for a period of a week or two. You will probably find at some point that the errors disappear, highlighting one of the workstations as being at fault.
Good luck. It's a difficult one.
