Here are the details of an intermittent GPF we are experiencing in our PS2OOO Payroll system developed in OpenInsight (now v3.3) when running on NT Workstation:

We have a payrun process which is quite a long and intensive process involving numerous of our own functions and procedures.

The problem we are experiencing appears to occur intermittently and only on NT Workstation. When it does occur it is often at a different stage in the process and processing different data each time.

The error manifests itself as:

OENGINE has caused a General Protection Fault in module OENGINE.EXE at

0003:O4DE.

Choose Close. OENGINE will close.

I have tried to locate the problem in numerous ways.

I have proved that the error is occurring in different modules by adding a trace to the process and noting when and where it crashes.

I have run the PS2OOO system in protected memory space and this improved things but did not cure the problem.

I have added in Flush and GarbageCollect statements within the processing loop to free up unused memory space.

We have recreated the problem in different copies of our system each containing different data.

I have applied the NT 4.0 Service Pack 3.0 and resource kit to the workstation but this offered little assistance.

Any help that you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

This is now a very pressing issue for us.

Many Thanks,

I believe you stated you were using OI 3.3. Have you applied the patch for OI 3.3 yet? This fixed GPF's in OENGINE.EXE that occured whenever an application was closed.

The 2 DLLs mentioned have already been applied. (The ones we have match those from the download).

Anybody have any more ideas?

If you can try to reproduce this on 3.4 or 3.5, it would help us to verify the exact code causing the problem. Assuming it can be reproduced, the same code should GPF in 3.4 or 3.5 between 0003:0718 and 0003:07AC; an exact 3.5 address would be the most help. I am not sure what could cause this problem and why it would be NT-specific.

Thank you,

Cameron,

We have also had the exact same GPF occur recently on 3 workstations that are running Windows 95. We have also had it occur in a different part of our PS2000 system to that originally identified.
