Greetings all:

Can anyone explain what causes the "Link list broken… transactions cannot be flushed" error message in regards to indexes in AREV 3.1? I am seeing this more frequently at various networked sites, even ones with the NLM installed.

Also, while rebuilding the indexes (which I usually need to do one or two at a time):

1) How important is it that all other users be logged off?

2) Do both btrees and relationals need to be rebuilt?

3) Do indexes that are relating keys *into* the data file nned to be rebuilt as well? i.e., do the "related from" indexes need to be rebuilt?

Thanks in advance,

Mike O.

I experienced this problem using the NLM and a dedicated index-server.

The problem was the index server. Its hard disk wasn't functioning

correctly anymore..

After replacing that PC the problems were gone.

Look at possible hardware causes.

In my opinion every index for that specific file needs to be rebuilt.

Good luck,

The link list is the list of pending transactions for the !files. In each transaction record, sequentially numbered from 0 to whatever, a pointer is stored to the next item in the list. When this pointer points to a non-existant record, the list is broken.

This error will usually occur if locking is not working or the session terminates abnormally while indexes are updating.

Generally you should rebuild all indexes in the file. Relationals usually do not get placed in there. If you feel you need them, then you would rebuild those with a target into this file.
