I am currently running a Novell network specifically version 4.11. The station id# in Advanced Revelation shows correctly as # * Mac# on all workstations. I am told by persons supporting the software which utilizes the Advanced Revelations Database that this station id can be modified through Netware. How is this possible?

I do not find any place within Netware administration to modify this number ( #*#).They claim that the station ID should contain a computer name * user name. Apparently they are utilizing this variable to track different things. They claim that the station id is too long and is causing their program to crash. Either the station Id is not causing the program to crash or I need to find out the Novell system variable that Arev is utilizing so I can contact Novell to find out how to modify it so that the station id can reflect the names as required by the software company. What is this system variable called? Since the computer name is a windows feature, How is a name associated to a computer when booting from floppy and accessing the Database by bypassing the Windows environment?

Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated!!!!

Thank You,

Jorgeanna

I AM CURRENTLY RUNNING A NOVELL NETWORK (VER 4.11) AND THE STATION ID SHOWS CORRECTLY AS #*MAC #. I AM USING ROUTE RITE SOFTWARE WHICH IS REFERENCING THE STATION ID.

Some versions of the workstation client in conjunction with certain network card drivers enable the station id to be set.

If you are in Advanced Revelation, and hit F5 to bring up TCL, and Enter WHO, what network driver are you using?

Jorgeanna ..

The returned station id in AREV is variable, depending on which version of the desktop client you are using, which version of Windows you're using, which version of the Network Driver you're using, etc.

In general it will usually take the form of:

 field1*NIC_ADDRESS

This is pretty standard. Field1 can be:

The Windows Machine Name

A session identifier (a number)

Another portion of the Network Address assigned by netware. Typically, a full Network address will look like:

HEX_VALUE:NIC_ADDRESS:SESSION#

Depending on what client is used you can see either HEX_VALUE or SESSION# in field1.
