I recently updated a client running Arev 3.1 on Netware 3.12 with the NLM, from 10 Base 2 & Win 3.11 on 486 workstations to 100 Base T, Win 98 & Novell Client 32 on Pentium workstations. The Pentium 100 server remained the same, except for the addition of a 100 Base T NIC, and we added a dedicated indexer. Since the upgrade, we have had a number of GFEs, mostly similar to "Group 0 Code 5 Initial setup failed, overflow frame header type 24 is incorrect". One of these in particular, on the Revboot Revmedia file, was fixed and has since returned. We have also experienced workstations freezing on a few occasions, it seems to be a Win 98 thing.

Are there any known problems with this combination? Any suggestions?

I don't have the version # of the NLM, it was purchased from RTI in July or August, I can get it if necessary. I'm currently out of town and my client just notified me of yet another GFE.

Thanks,

Gray Cunningham

Try turning oportunistic locking off, think it's called True Commit in Client32, which means turn it on. Also, turn off delay before writes. You basically want to remove all the caching items on the client so the server does all the caching.

Is the disable write-behind caching on all drives in Windows 95 redundant with disabling caching on the netware client. If not, what are all the settings that need to be turned off? The available list is somewhat daunting, and not all the items that appear to be cache-related are grouped together.

here are the settings on my client. I have not had any problems witht this arrangement:

In WINDOWS - writeBehind for all drives - checked

In Client32:

CacheWrites - Off

DelayWrites - Off

FileCacheLevel - 1

TrueCommit - Off

Hope this helps

I pretty much use ED's settings, though I will occasionally set Win95'swrite-behind caching off and I'll sometimes check the use old locking semantics box as well.
