What is the best backup option for an AREV database on a Novell 3.12 server. We have DOS and NT workstations attached. Any opinions on the matter? ARCserve, OFM, etc…

From what I've read, Open File Manager (http://www.stbernard.com/) is ideally suited for Arev. It's not backup software, but software that lives on the server that facilitates backups.

We use Backup Exec for Netware. This backs up server and also has agent to backup workstations running various operating systems.

Good scheduling and reporting tools and will backup 0k files. We still always have Arev shut down.

We used Arcserve for about 3 years, and recently converted to Seagate Backup Exec. We like Backup Exec better (a little more flexibility in scheduling, allows open files to be backed up, etc.). We were on Arcserve 5.01g, so maybe their newer versions corrected the "shortcomings", but we were ready for a change, and Backup Exec has "read" compatibility for a number of other products so you don't lose access to your stored tapes.

We use Open File Manager with arcserve 6 - no problems. The other day I needed to restore the verbs file from one account - it took less than 2 minutes to find and restore on a 6GB backup.

As an aside, we also use Vinca standby server, but when a file gets corrupted, the corrupted file gets mirrored anyway.
