To all,

We upgrade our internal OI 7.2.x system to OI 8.0.8. Finally. All looked good.

In the process of starting to test our app in OI8, we encountered the following system error messages. Can someone shed some light on the difference between OI 7 and OI 8 that is causing this problem?

The general condition is: 1) from an MDI_Child, a dialog_box is called, e.g., a databound form. When you click "OK" on the dialog_box, it breaks to debugger with the message shown above. I subsequently opened the System Monitor and found the above message regarding the OIWINS_Formload and Semanticloglayer. Does this tell anyone anything?

Thanks. I'm really hoping that the converstion from OI7 to OI8 isn't a big deal. Is this wishful thinking :)

Ray,

What was your upgrade path? Did you go from 7.2 to 8.0 and then 8.03 and then 8.0.8?

Thanks,

Sean

Hi Sean,

Yes we went from OI 7.2.x to OI 8.

Then from OI 8.0, we went to OI 8.0.3.

Then from OI 8.0.3, we finished on OI 8.0.8.

Does this matter?

Thanks,

Ray

This would normally happen if you used SEND_EVENT CLOSE in place of POST_EVENT close as the window would close immediately, the labelled common would be freed and then the program calling the SEND_EVENT would continue but without the labelled common in place.

Mr Sprezz,

I don't see any SEND_EVENT CLOSE. I'll look HARDER later.

Meanwhile, why would this problem surface now that we have upgraded to OI 8.0.8? Are you aware of differences between OI 7 and OI 8 that would cause this problem?

Well must go to the PUB and help take out the garbage. Thanks. I'll let you know if I find any SEND_EVENT that were hiding. I'll put on special glasses .

My recollection is that you have promoted CLOSE events. The upgrade might have affected this? I know that we have a routine we run after RTI upgrades to ensure everything is as it should be.

I vaguely remember some changes to some of the insert/include commons that required recompiling stuff. Isn't that why Sprezz has that handy recompile everything utility?

Caution when using this utility. If you saved let's say myssp as myssp_bak without changing the "subroutine myssp(parameters)" line the object code for myssp_bak could end up in the repository as myssp. This could lead to some head scratching as to why old versions of procedures are suddenly executing when the source code appears up to date.

Run the eventdesigner screen and check that all your needed 'Enforce'(s) are set.

This is the bain of all upgrades…the latest 9.2.1 overwrites the sysenv record. Big trap for the unwary.

Mr. Sprezz (or anyone),

Yes we have promoted CLOSE events, but from within an MDIFrame, it's calling a Post_Event.

The upgrade might have affected this?

Is the upgrading doing something it shouldn't??

I know that we have a routine we run after RTI upgrades to ensure everything is as it should be.

I may need this ROUTINE. I just RECOMPILED all my programs and recompile all my forms AND things don't look right. For example, when I click Launch App, the windows isn't visible. I had to go into form designer and make the window Visible (why?). When I now bring up some other windows, they don't look visually OK. Also, OI 8 seems a bit slower. Is this a fact? Or is this an incorrect perception?

Upgrades shouldn't be so stressful. Admittedly, we have a fairly big app (to me), but I was hoping to be making more progress. I prefer not to go back to OI7 again. Feel free to email me and we can discuss this offline.

If anyone has any suggestions or comments, don't hesitate to let me know that I'm wrong or need to be more patience.

Trying to give OI8 a go. Thanks,

Ray

Sounds like the upgrade has overwritten your event configuration record. We need to compare the previous to the new. Recompiling will have exacerbated the situation if this is the case.

Having been quick to suggest a possibly overwritten event config record let us be as quick to report that this was NOT the issue and that the event record remained in good health.

The actual issue is still under investigation - we believe the root cause has been identified but Ray continues to investigate and seek a solution.
