Hi,

 I'm part of an IT support team that is slowly consolidating our clients' in-house programs to servers that are more reliable and backed up regularly.  One of our clients uses OpenInsight, but has limited knowledge on how it is installed or works, really. As far as data files go, how does OpenInsight work? If it needs to be shared off the server (which is Windows-based), what basic shares are needed to make it work properly? Is there anything else I should know in order to get it to not cause any problems?

In order for OI to use data files on a server, the individual user desktops should have all rights:

Create, Modify, Delete, Add

In this case, the backup can be performed by a server process or from a desktop. It should be emphasized that the backup be FULL (not incremental or differential) and that all users should be logged off during backup (open files will usually not be backed up).

If you are using a Server-based Windows product like the NLM, etc.)then the server component handles all file I/O. Users still have to have all rights, but the server will handle the backup procedure. The same issues above apply here as well.

I suggest that you obtain some outside help if you are not familiar with Open Insight. This will usually produce the best results.

I'm assuming full rights to the Data folder is what you mean. Are there any other rights that may need to be set up?
