I thought of something that could affect data integrity. Arev uses the workstation clock to evaluate the TIME() function. It is possible to synch this up by requesting the server time using SYSTIME (although it does not seem to have much precision). I'm wondering though if this time comes from the user's home server. If so, what happens when various users have different home servers? Is it possible to query the time on a specific server, in this case the server on which Arev is located?

Novell has the concept of a "preferred server" to which locking and other "server-centric" requests are directed by default. Systime will synchronize the workstation with the preferred server. On multi-server networks, you have to have some way of synching server-to-server, and potentially on multiple NOS's (NT..Novell..Win95..whatever). Login time is the best time to synchronize. If clients are internet connected there are utlities to dial naval sites/atomic clocks and re-synchronize. PC Magazine ran one of these some 12 months ago.
