Backing up LH files while file is in use (OpenInsight Specific)

Currently we make sure that all of our users are logged out of the OI system before we run backup. We would like to be able to use OI 24 hours a day, as well as be able to have users logged in while we do our backup.
Is there anyone that is doing this currently ??
If so, what backup software do you recommend ?? (We are running Arcserve on Novell IntraNetware)
Have you had any data corruption from this process ??

Here is a problem one of our clients had with ArcServe,
6.2 I believe.
Several files were corrupted do to a network crash.
The entire system was restored from the previous backup
(a day old). After restoring the files nothing seemed to work right.
anymore. Upon further investigations, we found that about
half of the files, indexes and dictionaries existed in
revmedia but the actual dos rev#### files were gone.
Obviously, this was a problem. Fortunately, we were lucky
enough that the corrupted files were restored and looked
good and we were able to do a salvage operation on
novell to get the remaining files back. It took awhile to
piece it together but we did. It lasted about three
days and people were not very happy.
After even more investigation we found out Arcserve
did not restore the compressed files. Apparently,
there are some switch settings with Arcserve and novell
that have to be perfect. The backup software backed
up the compressed files but did not restore them. Before
doing a restore, all the files in the directory are
deleted. So, thats why only about half the files were
restored.
The moral of the story:
RESTORE AND TEST YOUR BACKUPS OFTEN!!!
p.s. In answer to your question, the best way to write
a little routine which forces people to logoff
(close the mdi frame), including the indexer, at a
specified time. It can be done.

I think the only way you can safely backup and allow for 24 usage of OI is to have a utility that updates a "duplicate" table that doesn't get attached by normal users and then back up that table.
Anything else is down right scary.
