I encountered a strange problem with our Novel 4.11 server running the NLM 1.10. We were conducting some tests over the weekend which required us to restore 2.8 GB of data from tape. 10 min after the restore was finished we noticed that the monitor displayed 84% to 93% CPU usage.

We looked at each user on the system including print servers and the REVELATION user an none of them could account for the trafic. I started to down the system by first downing the NLM. As soon as I downed the NLM usage dropped to 0%. When I restarted the NLM usage stayed low.

Did the restore confuse the NLM?

  When performing a backup or restore on your system, you should stop the NLM beforehand.  This will decrease the probability of any problems.  This is most likely what caused the CPU usage problem.
