We're trying to move some of our clients who are running AREV remotely from DOS/Win 3.x to Win98. Under Win 3.x we were using ReachOut or PCAnywhere to get this to work and printing was able to be sent to the Viewer/Local PC through port redirection.

Now it seems that the newer versions of these programs will only redirect printers. They install their own ports in the system and instead of telling a printer to print to LPT1: you tell it to print to your remote application's port (e.g. RO: in ReachOut).

Unfortunately this does not bode well with AREV or other DOS apps who only recognize LPTx. Has anybody figured out a way around this? Is there a way to have ports redirected under Win98? We could really use some ideas with this one.

Don,

I believe that all you need to do is to set the DOS CAPTURE on your local machine on the printer that is directed to the network printer.

Then you should be able to print to LPT1:, LPT2:, whatever.

Larry,

Thanks for the response (and the e-mail).

I'm not sure what you are suggesting however. Is this a DOS command or a setting in the Printer properties?

Thanks,
