Hate to bother you all on this, but sofar I haven't gotten any response back from Sambar.

I really want to be able to run the Excel Web Query and play with it. I thought it was pretty neat when I saw it recently. I installed Sambar on a Windows 2000 Server. When I try to launch Sambar, I get a message saying: Failure initializing service, see server log.

A summary of the Server og is below:

Common library initialized… Message (severity 99) file: D:\ver4\COMMON\Source\Cmnet.c (891) Unable to bind to port 80; the port is in use by another server. Failure starting the HTTP listener… Forced closing of all network connections… Finished closing of all network connections… NO OPEN THREADS… Server Checkpoint Closing with 0 open connections… Network Listener closed. Server Memory released. Server library exited… Common library exited…

Windows 2000 I believe is setup to use port 8080. Could this be the problem. If so, can anyone tell me how to change Sambar to use port 8080 rather than port 80.

Thanks. Other solution/comments would be welcome .

P.S. I will post this on the otherside as well. Thanks.

I think IIS is installed by default. Is it running? Hmm, well I guess so .

If it needs to be stopped, hmmm I think I'll have to figure this out under Win2000.

Otherwise can you tell me how to change the port setting on Sambar if that would even help.

Oh heck, I just figured out how to disable IIS and now Sambar is active. Part one is done. As I may have other questions, you may hear from me . BTW is there any reason why I can't use IIS for the OI to Web "thing".

Thanks,

Ray

Basically, because OI needs to have IIS interact with the desktop, and because of security issues in IIS (I saw recently in a magazine where some pundit said that IIS stands for It Isn't Secure) this feature isn't usually enabled.

Mike,

Okay, I think I'm getting closer to getting the Excel Web Query to work. First, Sambar is working. Two, the connection between the Inet_Gateway and Sambar must be working as when I try to run the Excel query, I can see messages appear in the Gateway.

here is my IQY item *

WEB

1

http://symmetrysbs1/cgi-bin/oicgi.exe/inet_rlisttest

cmd=CMD","Enter Any Rlist Command"

end of IQY *

(I also used the local loopback number. Same affect.)

When I go through the Excel Web Query process, I get a message in Excel that says: "The Web query returned no data …."

If I were to enter http://symmetrysbs1/cgi-bin/oicgi.exe/inet_rlisttest[/i] directly into the browser, I get back the message: OpenInsight – Server Error Fatal error while processing request The function inet_rlisttest is in my Store Procedure. It was cloned from something I found here. Any suggestions or comment. It looks simple. I'll keep trying other stuff. Meanwhile if you (or ANYONE for that matter ) see anything, let me know. Thanks. This is fun . Also, I'm using Excel 2000 on Windows 2000. Am I suppose to reference Inet_rlisttest somewhere else as well? I don't think so, but maybe I am.
