Please advise regarding this error: I need to resolve asap. This happens to Win NT, Win98 and Win 2000 clients. The server environment has been both NT and Novell. When logging into our application this error message appears. They can go through this and still access the applications. What is this from? Is this causing application errors when they enter in regardless of the message? I have already been to the microsoft website and there is no reference to this error. Thank you for your time and dedication to your client-base..

Maria,

The chances of finding something are better with fewer misspellings. Your error code contains three of them… :-)

I believe "access violation" might be a kind of "exception", which is a different word for runtime error in some programming languages, perhaps also Visual Basic, which is what OIPI is written in.

If you search with Google on

"access violation 0xc0000005" msdn

you'll find some references. They might not be helpful. They seem to be beyond me at least.

Perhaps Tony Splaver - OIPI's creator, can help.

A possible cause is starting OIPI when it is already loaded. Check that OIPI is closed (SET_PRINTER 'STOP32') when the application is closed. I think there was also a problem with OI 4.1.3 where OIPI was loaded by OI and individual application might already be set up to load this (i.e. the application code tries to load it a second time).

Paul - Starting OIPI32 twice doesn't produce that error - at least in OI 4.1.2, which is the version of OI I'm using. Could it be different in 4.1.3? Should be easy to check.

Maria - which version of OI are you using?

Maria - you say the error occurs on so and so platforms. Are there any Windows versions where the error does not occur?

Maria - do you use OIPI in your application at all?

32 bit is running 4.1.3 and 4.0.3. We have to run two different platforms due to the fact that 4.1.3 has too many issues with the 98 versions.

Maria - you say the error occurs on so and so platforms. Are there any Windows versions where the error does not occur? It is sporatic and there are many of our clients not getting this error.

Maria - do you use OIPI in your application at all? We use OIPI32..

We have seen this error when we have two of the applications running at the same time. This we are aware of and can control. The other issue seems to be different and unrelated as far as we can tell. Thanks Maria

Maria,

Try getting Revelation (OIPI32 responsible) or Tony Splaver (OIPI32 author) on the case.

Hi Maria,

This is a strange error for the OIPI. I assume that you have resolved it by now, but here are a few generic suggestions:

1. Try using the latest printer drivers.

2. Try using a TERM, 1 in all OIPI reports.

3. Does this error occurring only during startup, or does it happen while running OIPI reports too?
