I have recently received several reports from my customers using our RevG application that record locking is not working on NT workstations on an NT network and Windows 98/95 workstations on the same network do enjoy record locking.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Does anyone have any suggestions to solve the problem?

Thanks in advance.

Tom

For years I have had the same problem (lack of locking) on a network with Dos only work stations and Windows alike.

I installed the NPP 1.5 (Revelation Network Performance Pack v1.5) which helped some but didn't solve the problem entirely but REALLY slowed down many processes like opening TCL or opening other ARev windows.

I'd like a solution, as well.

Dallas,

I actually reposted this item and received some responses that no one was having the problem that you and I have had with record locking. Eventually I solved the problem by installing a new (actually older) REV.EXE file. The discussions can be found at: "RevG and NT: Problem Solved. (CT Savell 11/16/99)". Aaron Kaplan suggested that perhaps it was due to the difference between IBM and generic versions of REV.EXE. I didn't even know there were two different versions of REV.EXE and I have not yet checked to see if there is any validity to Aaron's theory.

Now my NT workstations do lock. Of course, you can NOT lock from the server only from the workstations.

Now my problem is that when I run certain reports on the NT workstations which have real time calculations and reads/writes during the report processing, the values get messed up as if they have been read twice. I have not had the time to research this problem, which does not occur on other networks or even with NT server and Win95/98 workstations. By the way, the locking also worked fine regardless of the REV.EXE on an NT Server with Win95/98 workstations.

I hope this helps. Since we share a common problem perhaps we should work together independently to find the solution.
