Just a word about the roadshow so far…
What a blast! We're so pleased to be meeting people we haven't seen for years… Yesterday in SF was amazing and Stat's hospitality was most appreciated by all. Response all round has been unfailingly positive - it's nice to see such a refreshingly honest approach from RevSoft management.
Today in LA should be cool - we look forward to seeing you all there! For those of you who can't attend, presentations will be posted in due course but try and get there if you can! We'll be at all the events and are really looking forward to the antipodean leg - it gives a great excuse to visit the Gold Coast as well as catch up on some old friends!

Hi Sprezz
So you know something about the antipodean end of the tour that us antipodeans do not?
When, where?
Since that dinky little winery town where I live was not on the list, I voted for Melbourne which as you know is a mere (roo) hop from the Gold Coast. Not.

Scott,
The dates for the Melbourne and Sydney Revelation Roadshows are yet to be finalized, we understand, after this week's frenetic schedule in the USA is complete.
David Goddard has been organizing the Australian shows and we suggest you email him via email - australia@revelation.com - for further details.
Dates mooted at this stage (subject to change) include
Tuesday 24th July - Sydney, Australia
Thursday 26th July - Melbourne, Australia
Tuesday 31st July - Auckland, New Zealand
All shows will probably start in the morning and run until mid-afternoon. The venues will be situated in the city precinct.
Andrew McAuley is likely to take in some good weather in Queensland ahead of the official roadshow dates.
If you wish to discuss the possibility of an S/Web demo in Queensland (at any time) please feel free to contact Steve Smith on 03 9759 6719 (home) or 0418 759 707 (mobile). The Sprezzatura roadshow content can be made available to you privately, and we will endeavour to answer any other queries you have about the product in the interim - email sales@sprezzatura.com
We are also certain that the Revelation product announcements on the recent exciting developments to their product range will be widely publicised in due course. They're very good news indeed for the majority of developers.
If you're in Melbourne for the roadshow it would be great to see you.

Well now that the Los Angeles tour is over, I'd like to offer a few comments on behalf of SRP and probably all others who attended the conference (many of whom are good friends of ours.)
We found the conference to be as exciting and informative as anything that has come from Revelation in several years. Perhaps the best word to summarize the event is community. Revelation is reclaiming the understanding that consultants and developers are their customers and the better we succeed, the better they succeed. Mike Ruane made a wonder presentation of this issue and announced many wonderful changes that will greatly improve our mutual relationship and will also allow us to provide our clients with better software solutions. We would absolutely love to spell out some of these items but out of courtesy I will defer to Revelation and their soon-to-be posted presentation of their tour.
About the only thing we didn't like about the conference was its compressed schedule (no lunch break!) However, we consider this to be a very minor issue compared to the variety of innovative and creative solutions that are available now rather than vapor ware that will not likely ever see the light of day. One other signficant item that came from Mike was a sincere statement that Revelation will not adopt the NIH (not invented here) attitude. They are heartily embracing third-party solutions that help the community as a whole rather than work against them. This should be evident with the acquisition of the OIPI, InsiTech's JOI, and inclusing of Sprezz's full suite of utilities in this Roadshow.
We would like to express our appreciation (in order of their appearance) to Revelation Software (Mike Ruane and Bob Carten), Sprezzatura (Andrew and Francesca McAuley), and InsiTech (Dave Pociu) for their time and energy in putting on this Roadshow. Unfortunately Francesca was not feeling well this day so we wish her all the best.
Our final remark is this - based on the current climate and the direction that Revelation wants to go, there is no better time to get plugged in. We have learned that it is far better to ride a wave as it is growing and gaining momentum rather than wait for it to peak. The strength of this community is the community itself. Always has and always will be.

I second the motion. I attended the New York area meeting in Newark, NJ. While the attendence could have been better (I know there are more than 12 developers in the Northeast), the presentations were dynamite. But heartening of all is the tremendously positive attitude shown. Nore more NIH crap .. a recognition that developers are not somehow the enemy (or people to be put upon if they express valid concerns and issues that ought to be settled). No more private back-room deals, etc. Mike and the RTI team are a wonderful breath of fresh air..the Sprezz, JOI, etc. announcements are a definitive forward looking suite of opportunities for us all.
Again, RTI and everyone, thanks again for a worthwhile time.

Thanks to all for the kind words!
I think that the roadshow is a great forum for Revelation to show the community what we're up to and what we have to offer.
It's not too late to attend any of the remaining shows- in DC, Chicago , or Atlanta. Just show up- we'll make room.
Mike
ps- We'll have a lunch break at next year's roadshow.

Hi Sprezz
That Andrew guy sure is wise. Qld in July, August, especially the Whitsundays is hard to beat. Especially when the weather is so crap south of the Qld Border.
This last week it has rained so much we've needed waders to get off the bus and cross the road. The floods have been too deep for gum boots. I guess that's the trouble with living in the driest state. They don't know how to build drains, and it doesn't seem to rain this much often enough to make it worth fixing them up either. 21" would be ok if we didn't get it all in one day.

It is indeed a great thing to see everyone coming together as a community again!
I want to thank everybody for the phenomenal response to the presentations, and to say that it was a pleasure meeting and talking to each and every one of you.
I think that if I was to summarize the comment most heard so far, it would be the relief of the community to see presentations about relevant tools that work today.
I look forward to meeting everybody else on the next legs of the 2001 roadshow, and to being a (small) part of the community re-building process.

Thanks for the presentation of JOI. I can see that JOI could well "save the bacon" in many situations.
It's heartening to see things being done with OI that we've been told for years couldn't be done.

I'm glad you enjoyed the presentation.
And as for things being done with OI, the whole idea is to show that through leveraging all the linear hash and R/Basic or Basic+ knowledge, any proficient Arev/OI developer can go TODAY straight to the hottest places in the marketplace: Java, XML, Web Services, rich GUI applications over any network, and n-tiered systems.
Just imagine the opportunities…
