Speed of ARev3 (AREV Specific)

We have converted our system from ARev1 to ARev3 and OI.
The speed of ARev3 is very noticeably slower than both ARev1 and OI.
Is there any way to speed up ARev3 to at least that of OI?

That's interesting because AREV 3.x should be faster than OI anyways. That's mainly because AREV doesn't have to worry about the overhead that OI has in the Windows environment.
What exactly seems slower to you? Perhaps it's related to specific types of processes (Disk I/O for instance) and not a general problem.
For what it's worth, I ran some benchmarks for a Cellular/Pager Service Provider client to see what the realistic differences were between AREV and OI. So I took the code that bills their pager customers (which is about 5000) and converted to OI - which was a pretty clean conversion I might add. After several runs for each configuration to get a good average, here's what panned out:
Arev 3.12 running on Win '95 - 19 minutes
Arev 3.12 running on DOS 6.22 - 23 minutes
Arev 3.12 running Windows 3.1 (on DOS 6.22) - 26 minutes
OpenInsight 3.5 running on Win '95 - 21 minutes
OpenInsight 3.5 running on Windows 3.1 (on DOS 6.22) - 29 minutes
So as you can see, under the same configuration AREV was always faster than OpenInsight by about 2-3 minutes. As systems get faster and better (and OpenInsight as well get's more optimized) I imagine any differences will be negligible unless we are dealing with time intensive processes.
Hope this helps some,

When we upgraded from 1.15 to 3.0 we experienced a significant
slow down. However. when we upgraded to 3.1 it remedied the situation and we are extremely pleased with Arev3.11 performance.

Well, I have to admit, this is the first time I've heard anyone complain that ARev was slower than OI. Good job on that engine optimization guys!
Anyway, if this is 3.12, you might want to look at enabling the yield to windows option.
From TCL
RUNMENU HARDWARE
Choose Hardware
Place a Y in the Yield time to Windows option.
This value gets saved in the INI.

We've just upgraded from 2.12 to 3.12 (ARev) - and in some situations it did appear that 3.12 was slower. I 'think' however, that some of that had to do with the renaming of files and fields that can take place when you upgrade. If your file and field names actually contain underscores instead of periods, but your windows and programs still contain period references - there is added translations that take place (most of the time) to accomodate that - however, it does take a bit more time.
If that's your situation, you might try going through a couple windows and 'cleaning them up', and see if that makes any difference.

Hi Jane,
We are still on AREV 1.1 and we use the HR application. How easy is it to do the conversion to AREV3 and then to OI? What are the advantages of doing so? What kind of application do you use that you converted? I am able to run the HR application from Win '95, if that is the main reason for converting to AREV3. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
