AREV 3.02 OK IN WIN 3.1 SLOW IN NT (AREV Specific)

I've been reading the threads for slow response in Win NT but haven't been able to find a solution for my problem. While in 3.1, Arev flies. Reboot into NT and it slows to a crawl - no matter how many users are on. I think it's my NT setup. I created an arev table on my local drive and it flies, too. Also, in NT when Arev is in background and goes into indexing - all apps slow to a crawl.
Using:
Arev 3.02
Novell 3.12 w/nlm
Windows 3.1 (fine)
Windows NT 4.0 (slow)
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Have you contemplated upgrading to Arev 3.12. There is an environment setting in 3.12 that says "Yield time to Windows" that when switched on, gets around the sort of problems you mention.

Actually, I am using Ensemble - Ceridian's Payroll system and I'm at their upgrade mercy - which I don't think will happen since they have a windows version and I dont plan on converting soon. Any other suggestions?
Thanks

What are your network settings on the box. Don't think it's the Yield(), since that would have some effects in Win 3.1 as well.

Do you have a shortcut created for ARev? Right click on the icon and try fiddling with the Misc Idle Sensitivity setting in Properties.
Open task manager and monitor its effect on ntvdm.exe. Unfortunately you can't access these properties on a running ntvdm window (unlike OS/2) so you have to close, change and launch each time to check the changes.

Tried all that - doesn't seem to do much. Any info on novell 4.x? Does arev work better with NT client Novell 4.x server?
Thanks!

I didn't think it would. Oh well. Other than fiddling with the Network Cache settings in the ARev environment I don't have any other ideas. Unfortunately NT doesn't have the "billions and billions" of settings that OS/2 does for 16bit sessions.
It's been some time since I've worked on Ceridian products. HR-1 used to require a hardware dingus connected to the serial port in order to use HR-1. Is this the case with Ensemble? Perhaps it is the HAL (Hardware Access Layer, not Heuristic ALgorithm)in NT that is slowing it down. Does Ceridian have a license that allows you to run without the dingus?

Ceridian did remove that "security block" some time ago. They bought HR-1 and merged it with Encore (bring back old memories?) - now it's called Ensemble (HR/Payroll for DOS). I did try to run it on an NT server (w/256 Meg RAM) and NT client 4.0. It moved! Faster than Novell/Win3.1. We are going to upgrade to Novell 4.x soon. If that doesn't fix the problem, then I'll just run it off the NT server. Thanks for all your help!

Just FYI I have a ARev 1.16 client migrating from Novell 3.12 and DOS workstations to ARev 2.03 (minimum required for NLM/NT) and WinNT 4.0 Server and Win95/98 workstations.
When testing this configuration on my office system, ARev 2.03 screen updates are very slow (like running DOS PC Anywhere at 9600 baud). Switching the session to full screen mode (alt-enter) restores it to full speed.
Changing the ARev network driver to 'Non-Networking' restores the 'windowed mode' session back to acceptable speeds also. It appears that the 'All Networks Driver' seems to slow down the 'windowed mode' screen updates for some reason.
Are your running windowed or full screen?

I use both windowed and full screen mode depending on what I am doing. I dont mind the slow screen reponse in windowed mode. It's the slow processing of data thats bugging me.
I dont think I can change my network driver. I have the NLM installed and I have to use the IPX/Advanced driver for proper record locking.
