We are in the process (hopefully) of upgrading an Arev client to our OI application. On the host PC (where the app is installed) it takes over 10 seconds for OI to load. The machine is running Win98 second edition, has 127mb Ram and 32 gigs of free hard disk space. I suspect a virus but the Arev app runs fine. The app will run on another PC in the workgroups just fine. The problem is just this PC. I tried to run System Monitor from the Accessories and it was strangely absent. Any ideas? We checked for the W32.Nimda.A@mm virus. The system is also running Norton AntiVirus. Disabling it doesn't help.

Thanks,

Blair

Blair,

Just an obvious question, are you also running AREV in the background when you launch OI on this machine?

It could be the network driver or something in the network settings in relation to the particular workstation.

Try a different driver and see if this compares better with the other workstations.

NT, Novell?

I've come across that problem many times and many configurations. If you turn off Norton's before you start OI, you should notice a difference.

You might want to make an exception for exclusion for the OI directory in Norton's also.

If you have a large number of tables, have you set the FILES= parameter in CONFIG.SYS (CONFIG.NT on WinNT/2k) to a large enough value ?

Many thanks to you Don, Pascal and Colin for your responses. I've tried all the suggestions but we are not out of the woods yet. However, in changing from All Networks Driver ver 1.5 to Byte Range locking driver, the application sprang to life on the host PC and ran flawlessly. We then went to the PC which accessed OI across the network. This PC then experienced the an unacceptable slow down which could only be elminated by switching back to All Networks Driver ver 1.5. I took NetBios protocol off the Host PC w/o no effect. It still only ran the application with Byte Range driver which precluded the app from running on the Network PC.

I'm still lost here. Does this mean anything to you?
