Hello,

I have a question about OI and the SUBST command under win98. I deploy y application onto a drive that I made the SUBST command and when I goto run it I get a white win 3.1 style box that says:

All Networks Driver 1.1.1.0

Unable to access Linear Hash files

FS231

and then right after I click OK and Message Box comes up saying:

Filing Installation Failed

(REPOS_BFS FS1100)

OpenEngine cannot start

And then it just goes down hill from there. The odd thing is that I can move my deployed program onto the root of the SUBST drive and it runs fine, but when I move it into a folder on the SUBST drive that has a long file name it bombs out. I can move it onto the physical drive under a long file name and it runs fine, there is something about a SUBST drive and long files names that causes it to bomb.

Any thoughts?

Don't know about long names, but I used SUBST on short names all the time.

We too get this from time to time.

Here is an extract from our trouble shooting guide…

The application displays error messages when starting and aborts

If the application displays an error message when you double-click on the icon check the following possibilities.

If the message is: 'OENGINE, This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down' and then performs a GPF:

· Ensure the system date is set correctly.

If the message is: 'Unable to access Linear Hash files, Error FS231' and 'Filing System installation failed (REPOS_BFS - FS1100) OpenEngine cannot continue' and refuses to start:

· Ensure that the properties in the application icon on the desktop are complete and have valid Target and Working or Start In directories.

· CSSP Windows applications are 16 bit applications as as such do not support UNC filenames (Universal Naming Convention), such as machine/directory, but requires DOS drive letter conventions. You must map the UNC to a drive letter or use relative pathnames </QUOTE> —- === At 07 JUN 1999 03:44PM Zymosis wrote: === <QUOTE>No it doesn't happen 'just sometimes' it happens all the time, if you attempt to start OI from a SUBST drive with a folder that is a long file name in the path it bombs out, BUT if you use the actual path and bypass the SUBST drive it works fine even with the Long file name, For example: W: is my SUBST drive C: local disk w:\my programs\oinsight\oinsight.exe Will die with the error I listed before BUT this path: c:\my devel\my programs\oinsight\oinsight.exe will work just dandy, its only when the SUBST & Long file names are used does it crash at startup. Any further thoughts? </QUOTE> —- === At 07 JUN 1999 06:04PM Cameron Revelation wrote: === <QUOTE>Zymosis, Have you searched for "SUBST" on Microsoft's support site (MSDN)? Have you tried to use the "DOS names" in your SUBST commands? Windows makes alternative 8.3 "DOS names" for folders and files with long and "spacey" names. Your "my programs" folder will have a DOS name "MYPROG~1" or "MYPROG~2", etc, and "my devel" will be "MYDEVE~1" or "MYDEVE~2", etc. To see what the DOS name of a folder/file is right-click it and check Properties. On second thought - since both your folders have DOS names different from their original names I'd expect both "my programs" and "my devel" to fail. You say a SUBST on "my devel" works. But it's still worth a try. - Oystein - </QUOTE> —- === At 08 JUN 1999 11:35AM [email protected] - Sprezzatura Group wrote: === <QUOTE>Are you doing SUBST W: "C:\My Programs" or SUBST W: C:\MYPROG~1?
