Hi all

This is a long shot I know, but I'm stuck.

Win XP Professional SP1, OI 3.7.2

Debugger doesn't work

I have a form which calls a program using parameters entered on the form.

I tried putting a debug line in the program but it doesn't work. The program hangs on a read line for a file that it has previously read and written to, and the bit of code used to work. Makes me wonder if the problem is bodgy data - but it looks ok.

I've been writing lines of useful? information to a text file instead of using the debugger.

So I write a line immediately before the read, and put a write line in the "then" clause, and the "else" clause and after the last read end bit and I only get the line immediately before the read. I can't get any of the information from the status function to write because it hangs on the read and nothing after that seems to get executed.

I'm thinking of shifting all the stuff to a win98 machine because that might revive the debugger - though I'm not sure if it will tell me anything extra.

Why would the read hang? Why would it hang on the third read when previous ones worked ok? What can you put in the key that would make it hang, can a key be too long? 22 characters?

Is there some work around that will make the debugger work in XP?

Hi All

Turned out to be an unassigned variable I was trying to assign to a field in the record I created immediately after the read.

And there was a few more of those. I'm so used to the compiler or debugger telling me about these. One misspelling and you're stuffed.

Teach me to try to restructure the code so I can figure out what it does.

whats the bet I suddenly end up with three posts just because somehow it accepted a form with nothing in the message part.

Anyway

I had an unassigned variable. And that was immediately after the read (and before the next debug message I wrote myself).

I am so used to the compiler or debugger telling me about these and now I'm running blind. Curses.

Have you disabled the debugger? Check in the environment.
