I am interested in tapping into Sage Accounts (the UKs biggest accounts software supplier) software for a number of my clients. According to Sage's web site you can do this using Sage Data Objects (SDO)

As a 32Bit ActiveX technology based on Microsoft's Component Object Model ('COM'), SDO is accessible to many development environments, which include:

Visual Basic

Access

Visual C++

Borland Delphi

Will it be possible to do this from OI? I can't test it to see if it works without buying into the Sage developers environment so I need to find out if OI will work "in principle" with such a product?

This is an area I can honestly say I "stare blankly" in so any help will be greatly appreciated.

TIA

Claude

Claude,

OI is a 16-bit environment. In order to call 32-bit DLLs or ActiveX objects, you would have to write your own thunking DLL, which you would call from OpenInsight. This DLL would then call the COM object, reformat the results so that OI could understand them and then pass them back to OI.

Or, you coulde just wait for JRev.

I'd hoped I'd entered the OI development late on, so some other developers would have gone through the pain of creating thunking DLLs.

Not that I'm lazy, mind, its just that I don't have the time or programmers that I can unleash onto side issues.

Can't wait for JRev, my clients want it now!!!

I might have another look at Delphi…..

Thanks anyway

Claude
