I have a client who has just changed servers and are now getting the following errors under the following conditions.

A statement run was being run on one workstation.

A second work station started to run an Aged Trial Balance, both programs access the same file plus other diff ones.

As soon as the ATB prog was run, the statment workstation crashed with the message "Max no of variables exceeded"…I have only seen this when Arev is loaded twice on the same pc.

The statement program was doing a very large select and sort.

Statement program ran ok when nothing else wwas run.

Also

They reported getting the following error at another time:

Fatal error reading 18723 from Sales_Register

Error 1102 returned during RCL request reply.

Just realised now, in the cases above, the file they both use is the Sales_Register file.

Can anyone provide any guidence as to where the problem might, and explain the 'RCL' as I have never seen that one before.

What is the new server setup as other workstations settings may have changed. For example if moving from Netware to NT have they changed network driver - and are they using correct network product.

Also make sure the workstation shortcuts are still using /XM4096 and EMS is actually active.

That being said it looks like problem is with the file (either a real or phantom GFE) so that probably needs addressing first. My network comment above may fix it.

Barry,

1 - check for GFEs on the file in question, also in its dictionary

2 - EMS is actually active - check that both sessions on the same PC are not using the same EMS buffer address (using the display from WHO command).

I would use less variables. It's much easier to program if you know what things are going to be.

Remember, if all else fails, X equals 3

Error 1102 is Resource in use error. RCL is some RTI thing dealing with the NT Service and named pipes or some other communication thing. Now, I'm no expert or nothing, but I'd say you're getting the error because a resource is in use.
